I have been addicted to the hobby of Living History ever since the spring of 1994. My father and I followed a friend to a rendezvous, and at once I was hooked. Within a year I had a set of clothes, a gun and a tent. That same friend loaned me his collection of Muzzleloader Back Issues, and I was drawn into the world of Trekking through reading Mark Baker's articles. It wasn't long after that I had made some new clothes, sold my gun and purchased a flintlock, and started on an 18th century Eastern persona.
In 1999 my world was changed, I spent that summer as park Historian at David Crockett State Park, and decided that Living History was more to me than just a hobby, I wanted to make a profession of it. In November of 1999, I founded the website HistoricalTrekking.com, an interactive information site on Trekking, and it was this site that made me interested in On The Trail when I heard that it was up for sale in August of 2000. I had been a subscriber for 3 years now, and I loved the magazine, and thought that it had a lot of potential. In October of 2000, my dream was realized and on the 19th (coincidentally my 22nd Birthday), Rick Edwards and I signed the contracts making On The Trail mine.
